Our Story
AFRICONNECT began as a simple holiday in the Lower Zambezi National Park. After an incredible safari with J&L Private Safaris, Adam Renoux (Founder) asked his guide (John) for his website or TripAdvisor, so he could post a review. John looked at him curiously, and answered that he didn't have either of those online presences. What seemed common in Europe and the U.S was reserved for extremely developed, likely foreign-owned companies in Africa. How could a company like his compete against huge, foreign-owned chains dominating the African tourism market without an online presence? The answer is simple: he couldn't. Not due to lack of skill, hard work, or poor services, simply due to the fact that he didn't have the budget or skills to create them. Adam wanted to create something that could expand and reach local, authentic businesses around Africa, and help them grow. He also wanted to help travelers trying to find such businesses so as to not only gain a more authentic experience, but make an investment in developing communities. This is why he created AFRICONNECT, a marketplace not built to maintain the dominance of foreign chains in African tourism, but built to connect locally-owned tourism businesses to international clientele.
